What is ekar?
ekar is the Middle East’s first smart car rental company allowing people living or visiting the United Arab Emirates the freedom of driving a car without the hassle and expense of owning or renting one!
ekar uses state-of-the-art instant reservations and smart access technology, providing a network of vehicles for hourly on-demand rent in the UAE.
ekar members only pay for the time they use. ekar’s fleet of brand new vehicles provides plenty of space for you and your friends. ekar offers an easy and affordable way to enjoy all the UAE has to offer.
How does ekar work?
You will have 24/7 access to the most efficient fleet of cars by the hour. ekars are stationed at convenient locations across the Emirates, visible on the App or online map. You can reserve your ekar directly from your smartphone.
Unlock your ekar using the App or via your ekard. Make sure the car is in good condition and report any damages. For issues, please contact us at 800 my ekar (693527) or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your car key is located in the glove box. Simply remove the key from the key holder to begin driving.
You only pay for what you use. Cars are fully insured, well serviced, and full of petrol! Drive happy! For all stops, keep the car key with you and use it like any regular car. When your booking is complete, return the car to the same reserved parking spot, and insert the car key into the key holder. Remember to take all of your belongings.
End the booking via your App or ekard. Then you are all done!
Who can join?
All you need to join is a driving license, ID, to be at least 21 years old and to have been holding an Emirates license for over 1 year or an international license for 2 years. Registration fee is just AED 1 paid via credit card. The approval process is within 24 hours.
How do I Register?
Signing up is quick and easy. Just register online, upload a picture of your driving license and ID. Once we have received these two documents, your account will be approved. Download the app and you’re good to go.
Can I join if my driver’s license is not from UAE?
Yes, but you must still be at least 21 years old, have a valid credit card, and a valid driver’s license in good standing. You will have to upload a picture of your driver’s license, your passport, and your visa stamp.
What do I do if my ekard is lost or stolen?
Certain members have ekards. It is important to let us know right away if your card has been lost or stolen so we can deactivate your lost card, and set you up with a new one. A replacement card costs 45 AED, and can be picked up at our office or by calling us at 800 my ekar (693527) to have one mailed to you.
I forgot my username/password!
No problem, it’s an easy fix. Just visit the login page at ekar.ae, click the “forgot password” link and follow the instructions.

What’s included in my fees?
Pretty much everything – every trip includes gas, insurance, parking ( for our RTA fleet, RTA zones A, B, C, D check the orange RTA signs for clarification on which zone), 200km/trip, maintenance and 24/7 support. We have now added parking zones E, F, G, H, K, L to our parking! For these zones please email email@example.com

I have a promo code – what is this?
A promo code gives new members access to waived registration fees, and can even include free hours. Promo codes must be entered at the time of registration. Promo codes do expire, so double check your code’s expiry date before your register.
How long is a promo code valid for?
It depends on the promotion, each promo code has its own expiry date (usually 30 days). Just contact us with any questions you may have about your promotion.
Can I drive on roads with SALIK tolls?
All ekars are equipped with Salik toll tags. All toll charges incurred during your reservation will be added to your account. Additionally, anyone found tampering with the Salik tag will be charged a penalty.
Please note that it can take up to 24 hours for the charges to be reflected on your credit card statement.
How do I pay?
All charges will automatically be applied to the credit card on file. You’ll be able to see the cost of all your trips by logging in online to your account the next business day. Monthly invoices will be downloadable.
What if I get a ticket or get towed?
Your credit card will be automatically charged for parking tickets, towing, and any associated processing fees. If you have any concerns please contact us.
Our public RTA fleet (the grey and white cars) come with RTA parking cards. These give you the freedom to park in RTA parking zones A, B, C, D. This covers most of Dubai. However, Deira Fish Market, Knowledge village, Internet city, Media city and Business bay are not in the ABCD parking zones, these are in zones E, F, G, H, K, L and you need to let us know the exact parking zone e.g 382f when parking in these areas, email firstname.lastname@example.org with the detail. Please look out for the Orange RTA parking signs which clearly indicate the zone. Malls are also off limits as I’m sure you don’t want to be searching 8 floors in Dubai mall for an ekar. How do I reserve an ekar?
You can reserve a car through the ekar App or at ekar.ae. If you see a red light on the windshield reader, it means that the ekar is reserved.
Can I book in the future?
Yes, you can book our cars up to 1 day ahead of time.

How can I pay for ekar’s services?
We accept payments online using Visa and MasterCard credit/debit card in AED (or any other agreed currency).
Are pets allowed?
Yes, but only in carriers. Excessive cleaning fees do apply if pet hair and/or odors are found in the vehicles.
Is smoking allowed?
No. An excess cleaning fee applies if we detect that smoking occurred in the vehicle.
Is ekar equipped for kids?
We are most definitely family friendly, but please make sure you bring your own booster/car seat to ensure your little ones are safe.
What if I have lost or found an item in an ekar?
If you find an item left behind by another member, please leave the item in the glove box or the trunk depending on the size of the item, and let us know by calling (800 my ekar (693527).
Please also call to report a lost item, we will keep an eye out for it and let you know once it has been found. You can pick up your lost item at our offices.
What do I do if I need roadside assistance?
Call us at 800 my ekar (693527) and you will be connected to your ekar Member Service team who will assist you.
What do I do if I get into an accident?
You must immediately report accidents, breakdowns, defects, or damages involving your ekar or its equipment to the Member Service team, calling (800 my ekar (693527)) or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the event of an accident, it is mandatory to obtain a police report by calling 999. Once you have received the police report, leave it in the glove compartment and advise our Member Service team by 800 my ekar (693527)">calling or via email@example.com">email at . Failure to provide a police report can result in all relevant costs being charged to you.
Can I go outside of the UAE?
Please contact our offices at least 24 hours prior your trip. We can field these types of requests.
What are the lights on the ekard reader?
Green – the vehicle is available
Red – car is reserved or in use
Yellow – connecting to the server
How can I tell if a car is available?
Check the ekar App or ekar.ae to find available cars near you. You can also walk up to a vehicle and check the windshield reader. A green light means the car is available. If no lights are on, the car is in sleep mode. Use the App or tap your card on the windshield reader to wake ekar up and check the car’s availability. A red light indicates the vehicle is reserved.
How do I start my trip?
To start your trip, simply use your ekar App or tap your ekard on the windshield reader. The light on the windshield reader will change from red to yellow to green, indicating you have successfully started your trip. Listen for the central lock. This may take up to 30 seconds depending upon signal strength. Sometimes a communication problem or long delay can make a booking fail. If you ever need help feel free to call us at (800 my ekar (693527)).

The key is located in the glove box in the key holder.
How do I end my trip?
For our RTA fleet ( the grey and white cars) park the car in any RTA spot ABCD throughout Dubai. For our private fleet please return the car to one same reserved parking spot, and insert the car key into the key holder. Remember to take all of your belongings.
End the booking via your App or ekard. Then you are all done!
Can I change my reservation after I booked a car?
Yes, you can change the reservation yourself through the App anytime up until the start time of your reservation. After this, you would need to give the ekar team a call to update the reservation.
What do I do if I’m running late?
If you realize you are running late, you can update the reservation time on the app or by calling us at 800 my ekar (693527). If nobody else has booked the vehicle after you, you can change the reservation without any additional charges.
What happens if the bay I need to return the vehicle to is blocked?
If when you return from your journey and the bay is blocked by another vehicle please park in the closest available parking space. Please call your member service team to let them know where it has been parked. We will arrange to get the ekar back to its correct space.
Why can’t I end my trip?
ekar will let you know when there’s an issue ending your trip with an error message on your ekar App.
There are a variety of reasons why you might not be able to end your trip. Here are some of the most common:
- The key fob was not returned to the glove box holder
- A door, including the trunk, may still be open
- You are trying to end your trip outside an ekar parking stall

The lights on the windshield reader are off, what does this mean?
This usually means the car is in sleep mode. Simply use your ekar App to select the vehicle or tap your card on the reader to wake it up.
What if the car is damaged or dirty?
Please report any damage or cleanliness issues by calling us at 800 my ekar (693527) at the start of your trip. This is an important step because you could be held responsible for any unreported damage or cleanliness issues if left until after your trip.
Can someone else drive during my reservation?
No, only the ekar member that reserved the car can drive that ekar.
How do I refuel?
Public Fleet – Our RTA cars in Dubai have VIP fuel tags. All you have to do is go to any Enoc or Eppco and they will fill up at no cost to you.
Private Fleet – Our fleet team keeps an eye on the fuel levels of all ekars, so you don’t have to worry. In the unlikely event that your ekar needs to be refueled during your trip, just keep the receipt and email a scan or photo to firstname.lastname@example.org. ekar will pick up the bill and reimburse you for the expense.
What type of gas is ekar taking?
Always fuel ekars with regular unleaded.
What if the smart fuel system is not working?
If under the rare circumstance you run into any issues, go ahead and pay for it and we’ll reimburse your account. You will have to submit a copy of your bill to email@example.com to claim the reimbursement and receive credit.
How can I cancel my Membership?
We will be sad to see you go, but simply call us and we’ll take care of it.
Insurance & damage
What is the damage fee and when does it apply?
If a Member is at fault for a damage to the vehicle, they will be responsible for a damage and administrative fee of AED 2500 minimum, unless a higher total amount is determined by the insurance company under ekars Third Party Liability insurance agreement.
Members who are involved in an accident where the police report involves 3 cars and the user is both at fault and not at fault, a participation excess fee of AED 1000 will apply.
Drivers without a UAE license or who have held a UAE license for less than 6 months are liable for an additional 20% on the total claim amount
Drivers who are 21-24 are liable for an additional 20% of the total claim amount
What type of insurance is included?
ekar is insured with Third Party Liability insurance.
What happens if there is an insurance claim?
You will have to file a police report and submit a copy of the report to ekar. If the Member Agreement is broken during the time the damage was caused, the full amount of the damage to ekar and third party (other car/property etc.) will be the Member’s responsibility and the user’s Membership may also be terminated.

What if I violate the ekar Member Agreement?
Any violations will lead to your Membership being terminated with or without notice.
I work for Emirates can I rent by the hour?
Yes, you can rent the ekar public fleet (grey Nissans) by the hour. The Emirates private fleet is for 24-hour bookings or more
Can I take the car from Dubai and leave the car in Abu Dhabi?
No this is not a service we currently offer.
